Bandai Spirits is a Japanese based producer of toys such as plastic model kits, action figures, etc. You may have known them as a former video game company which is now called Bandai Namco. Some notable properties include Dragon Ball, Pac-Man, Tamagotchi, and so on.

Creating the Pop Up Shop in NYC

Marketing Genome has been providing turnkey trade show services for Bandai for several years. The pandemic impacted our traditional marketing initiatives and in early 2021 we had begun planning to produce a Pop Up Shop in New York City in order to help promote Godzilla vs Kong and generate sales.

Marketing Genome teamed up with Foresight to help operate the Pop Up Shop in NYC and after a couple months of venue scouting landed on an old Sunglass Hut located on Fifth Avenue in New York City. If you’re not aware, Fifth Ave is also known as Millionaire’s row as it boasts some of the most expensive and finest shopping streets in the world.

In order to accurately reflect this experience, we had to start with the 3D renders of what the Pop Up shop would like like after we restore an old run down Sunglass Hut. Marketing Genome strives to make all of our renders as accurate as possible. As you’ll see the Pop Up Shop renders we did for Bandai did just that.

Tamashii Nations | NYC Pop Up Shop Fabrication

The Sunglass Hut was in decent condition, but not great. There was plenty of cleaning, repair, and planning to be done in order to fabricate the pop up shop. New York City also presents challenges when it comes to logistics. No loading dock and busy streets certainly makes things a bit more difficult when it comes to offloading materials. 

Marketing Genome is a one stop shop, so we handle all the designs, permits, labor, fabrication and everything else in between. Our goal as a NYC Pop Up Shop company is to make this as seamless and easy as possible for our clients. 

For this installation, we used a variety of metal extrusions and SEG fabric to skin the perimeter walls. We opted to do this instead of using the drywall for a number of reasons. This is a temporary setup, not permanent so we have to be mindful of that. We also have a limited number of days for install. This method allowed us to produce a NYC Pop Up Shop that would not only get set up quickly but it would not require us to rewire electrical, damage drywall or do anything that could damage the venue.
