Recap: Marketing Genome at New York Comic Con

by Dec 9, 2021

This past October, Marketing Genome partnered with three huge clients and successfully executed their New York Comic Con booths. As the largest comic con on the East Coast, New York Comic Con brought in over 150,000 attendees from Thursday, October 7 to Sunday, October 10, making this our biggest show since the pandemic started.

The convention focuses on a wide range of comic books and all things pop culture, including movies, TV shows, and video games. Attendees frolic around in cosplay as they check out the many different booths that New York Comic Con offers. Famous artists and notable celebrities often appear as special guests at the convention, making attendees all the more excited to go.

Marketing Genome was thrilled to help with our clients’ trade booth success in such a dynamic environment. When it comes to huge events with lots of vendors, it’s imperative that you create something that stands out from the crowd. Knowing the audience is the first step in designing a trade show booth that wows. Then, comes the actual design. How are you going to pull people in? What will make them want to stay and interact?

Read on to learn about how we worked with eBay, Funimation, and Bandai on their trade show booths for New York Comic Con.

eBay

One of our clients for New York Comic Con was the multinational e-commerce site eBay. The team at Marketing Genome set up a 30×40 booth that was widely lit up with four impressive light boxes hanging from the ceiling and one large LED screen on the back wall. Also included were two large display cases featuring six products each.

The booth itself displayed a selection of limited-edition trading cards from DJ Skee and King Saladeen, a Death of Dr. Strange comic with a variant cover designed by DJ Skee, games, and other exclusives. Attendees also had the opportunity to meet the artists for in-booth signings.

Funimation

Funimation, a Sony-owned anime streaming company, was another one of our clients. Marketing Genome put together three different spaces for Funimation, consisting of one 40×50 and two 20×50 booths. The largest booth featured a food truck and fun giveaways. The second booth operated as a pop up merchandise store with a variety of different products for sale. The last booth was set up under a printed tent that included free swag for the attendees and a chance to dance along to AnimeDance DJ.

Bandai

Our third client for New York Comic Con was world-renowned Japanese toymaker Bandai. Marketing Genome set up three spaces to properly showcase their different products. The first space was dedicated to Dragon Ball Z and featured a giant statue as the first attraction upon entering the showroom floor. But that wasn’t all; many of the show’s figurines were on display throughout the booth, along with an LED video screen playing clips of the show, and a video game duel station.

Tamashii Nations, an umbrella label under Bandai containing Japan’s top collectible brands, also had their own space. This booth featured a lifelike Godzilla statue and Star Wars statue, which made for great photo ops. On display were exclusive figurines and one-of-a-kind memorabilia that attendees were able to purchase.

Bandai’s third space featured all things Demon Slayer. Attendees were able to view figurines and “proplicas” or replica props of the swords used on the show. The booth itself was well-executed in theme and made a great interactive experience for any Demon Slayer fan.

These are just some of the ways Marketing Genome can completely customize a trade show booth to each client’s specific needs. Forget the standard cookie-cutter booths. With turnkey service, our team can help you with the initial design idea all the way through execution. From customizing shape, style, and size to incorporating unique elements such as lightboxes, hanging signs, and LED tiles, Marketing Genome has the expertise to do it all.
