Pop-Up Retail Store | Tiesto at EDC

Who is Tiësto?

Ever hear that Shakespeare quote.. “Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them”? Well, Tijs Michiel Verwest (aka DJ Tiësto) is one of those greats that can be categorized in all three. This insanely talented dude became one of the world’s foremost trance DJs, continuously performing to thousands of fans at stadiums across the globe. Throughout his career, he embraced a more pop-oriented EDM approach on his way to becoming a Grammy-nominated, platinum-certified producer. Several of his albums, mix CDs, and singles have been certified gold, specifically in his native country, the Netherlands. (Reference: Billboard)

The Project

Modeled to represent Tiësto’s image, came the fabrication of a modern, irregular-shaped Custom Pop Up Display Store and what better place to best promote the DJ himself than during the Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC), one of the worlds largest electronic dance music festivals in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Pop-Up Shop Build

With small tidbits of information provided on the initial concept, the new exhibit design for the pop-up shop was not only created around specs and requirements provided by the client but also further embellished by our in-house design team. Just as we practice with other clients, a series of preliminary layout designs and a full 3D booth render process took place. It wasn’t until Tiësto was 100% satisfied with the final pop-up design that we began fabrication.

By Using AGAM, a modular metal extrusion we were able to custom powder-coat the entire exhibit black to further match Tiësto’s unique branding. The versatile use of AGAM extrusion also allowed for added retail accessories, lighting, etc. This also channeled the usage of a new fluorescent acrylic infill that mysteriously gives the appearance to be glowing without the use of external lights or electricity.

The Results

With this project, came the opportunity to once again flex our creative muscle within the exhibit design realm. Although we were provided a specific set of requirements and had to build within a very restrictive space provided by the MGM Resort, the pop-up shop exhibit seemed to appear that it had been there for years. All of these factors challenged our event management abilities, due to the fact that we had minimum time to coordinate and get approval between the MGM management, the pop up mob, as well as the end client, Tiësto.

Working with multiple entities resulted in multiple changes. The challenges faced, proved to the team that anything could be worked around or overcome, even with restrictions. With the Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) taking place and all the competition that inhabited the city hearing such positive results from the Custom Pop-Up Display and Store was just music to our ears!

Final Thoughts

We have substantial experience working within the music industry but this exhibit did much more than just promote an artist. It blended, music, fashion, socialization, a town, a vibe and a culture. All things we are more than proud to be a part of. Thanks for the experience Tiesto!
